Volunteers are integral to St Lucia; they are the very heart of its program. Volunteer activities include (without limitation) the following:
  • Providing personal care such as bathing and feeding
  • Playing with the children, arts and crafts
  • Monitoring children and adults for opportunistic infections
  • Transporting children to the local hospitals and clinics for follow-up care
  • Cooking, dishwashing, laundry, cleaning and organizing
  • Accompanying community health workers to villages
  • Maintaining the building and grounds, e.g. painting, carpentry, gardening
  • Providing miscellaneous support for the organization using the volunteer's special skills, e.g. photography, creative writing, computer work, grant writing

"My time at St. Lucia was too short; getting to know the children and the communities in and around Arusha was so rewarding. I visited St. Lucia the summer before I began graduate school, and learned so much from Winnie about community health, palliative care, and most importantly, how to help people in need of assistance. Plus, nothing makes you smile as much as the children at St. Lucia. I hope to return one day very soon."

-- Nicole Bolton, Volunteer

" Volunteering at St. Lucia was a life-changing experience. I was challenged and inspired in so many ways."

-- Grete Zemans, Volunteer
